This is module is for learners based in industry and who have at least 5 years professional engineering work experience. This is an advanced module in the theory and application to practice of quality management principles, in particular Lean and Six Sigma.

On completion of this module learners will

  • Summarise the benefits of continuous improvement, value analysis, TQM, business excellence models, quality cost measurement for engineering operations.
  • Apply the analytical tools and techniques of Lean (e.g. TPS, DMAIC, A3 problem solving).
  • Apply the analytical tools and techniques of Six Sigma (e.g. 7 tools, process capability, SPC, FMEA, DoE).
  • Appraise the quality system in an engineering operation.
  • Formulate plans for an engineering operation to obtain an internationally recognised quality standard.
