This micro-credential aims to give learners an overview of the underlying technologies and principles of operation of a range of commonly used medical devices, including (but not limited to) imaging systems, critical care devices and wearable sensors.

Dr Cailbhe Doherty discusses the origins and evolution of the Quantified Self movement, initiated by Gary Wolf and Kevin Kelly of Wired Magazine in 2010. This presentation was delivered at the annual conference of the American College of Sports Medicine on 30th May 2024. An example of a lecture that refers to learning covered in this microcredential such as benefits and challenges of wearable technology,  its potential for public health surveillance, personal health insights, and the obstacles of data accuracy and privacy.
