Quantum Theory of Condensed Matter

This module will introduce methods of many-body quantum mechanics, as applied to condensed matter physics. The fundamental formalism and techniques are presented, with examples of applications to relevant physical systems.

Most modules require a 2.2 degree in a related discipline or equivalent professional experience.

Should you have any queries regarding your eligibility, please contact us at info@advancecentre.ie

On completion of this module students should be able to:
1.Acquire a knowledge of the basic tools used by a theoretical physicist involving many-body quantum mechanics, including tight-binding formalism, Green's functions, quantum transport techniques, quantum phase transitions.
2.Apply these techniques to physical problems of relevance in modern condensed matter science.
